About Dewerstone

Dewerstone Photography is the working title for Louise Tope

With CANINE PHOTOGRAPHY, my aim is to produce the perfect image for the client. I always try to interpret their requirements, resulting in a photograph which represents how they perceive their dogs. Photography is an art and is always open to interpretation, not a science with rules and formulas.

I have always enjoyed photography. My older sister studied the subject for both her BTEC and Honours Degree, and for a while, we had a small darkroom at home, in the cupboard under the stairs. She would let me help her develop and print her coursework pictures. I loved to watch the images "appear" in the developing fluid.

Later on, I spent many hours in the school darkroom when studying A-level art. Now, with the digital age, photography has become a much more accessible hobby to those without the time or funds for the traditional methods.

Currently, I work full-time as a professional canine beautician in my own salon. My photography has to fit into my spare time (of which I never seem to have enough!) Twenty years of grooming dogs has taught me how to be creative, and appreciate how to achieve a balanced picture, a skill I have now transferred to my photographs.

I have shown my own dogs (and other people's) since 1986. I have handled a wide selection of breeds across the groups, giving me invaluable knowledge of what I want to see through the lens.

I am more than happy to photograph dogs in a formal show pose or perhaps, a less formal portrait. Either indoors in the studio, or outside on a fine day - wherever the dog is happiest.

My photographs regularly appear in Our Dogs and The Sighthound Magazine.

Second only to dogs is my passion for beautiful cars, which I also love to photograph.

I use Nikon & Sigma digital SLR equipment and Elinchrom studio lighting. Adobe Photoshop CS2 is my choice for editing, with Huey colour calibration software fine-tuning each and every picture. I prefer to use the latest, high-tech inkjet technology for my pictures, better suited to individual fine-art prints than other 'mass market' printing methods.
